ArchLinux "Overlord" released
Lately I’m a big ArchLinux fan. It’s the Gentoo of binary distributions. I am using it on my webserver and on my desktop at job. It’s easy, it’s fast and it’s small. It just takes 5–10 minutes to install and configure.
Why am I not using Ubuntu or similar distro? Because it got a shitload of useless daemons running and the package dependencies are just ridiculous. Why do I need Xorg in order to install VIM for example? That’s just stupid.
Anyway, just try it.
The 2008.06 images are out. This release introduces many changes.
- ‘base’ category is always installed
- Use of UUIDs for persistent device naming
- Availability of USB disk images alongside traditional ISOs
- True live Arch installation environment
- Inclusion of the beginner’s guide from the wiki
- Documentation updates
- Includes the current stable kernel, 2.6.25.6
