YaBB 2.2 Released
Today finally a new version of the best Perl-based forum software has been released. It has been 2 years since the last major release. Most important updates are for improved security, anti-spam, rss-support (finally) and a more advanced templating system.
I joined YaBB back in 2001 or 2002 and helped with basically everything, from programming to community support. A few years later I left the team, due to lack of time and various other reasons like bad project management. Nowadays I’m still semi-active on the community forums and following their development process. I think it be improved greatly by changing three things:
- Creation of a clear roadmap or planning.
- A switch to a better SCM like Subversion or Mercurial!.
- New project management.
Besides YaBB 2, YaBB 3 is also under development, but its development kinda stalled. Most of the current YaBB 2 developers can’t help with YaBB 3 because of lack of knowledge of object oriented development.
Anyway, too much negative talk. Good job YaBB Team! Let’s hope YaBB will flourish again in the near future! Read more about the new YaBB release…
