Awaji Island 「淡路島」
It’s already more than a week ago since my last post, time for a new one.
Last week was pretty much an ordinary university week, except for Thursday and Friday. Thursday was some kind of holiday and from Friday till Monday the university had the yearly festival. I went there on Friday. The festival was pretty boring, basically students were selling food and there were a few performances. I think the best performances were on Saturday evening, but I wasn’t really able to go there that evening because of the hiking that day. With some OUSSEP students and Japanese students we walked on Minoh-mountain for 4–5 hours. You have probably seen the pictures on Flickr already. It was fun, but very enervating.
Sunday was day for rest to prepare for my biggest trip till now in Japan, Awaji Island「淡路島」!. I went there together with Mami by bus at 07.00am in the morning. It took about 2 hours to go to Sumoto (a city). There we met a friend of Mami. :). With the three of us we explored the island, she has got a car, so that was really handy. The only problem was that she doesn’t understand English, so communicating was pretty difficult, however it only encourages me to learn faster. Just take a look at my photos to get an impression of the places I visited. I also encountered the rare opportunity to watch a the “blessings” or “wishes” of a child. It was really interesting to watch, and we were the only ones there watching. No tourists at all :D. Take a look at this movie to get an impression (I have chosen a bad quality though, still wanted to take some pictures).
Anyway this was a great day and I’m still really thankful to Mami and her friend for this day (and the previous days and the coming days). Doing so much for a strange Dutchie.
When I came back in Osaka that evening I could just smell the bad air, really stinky in comparison with Awajishima. If you want to hear more details about the trip just call me on skype or webcam or something :D. I will certainly go back to Awajishima more often. I don’t know when yet, but surely (around) and on new years eve.
So, yesterday Awajishima, today university, tomorrow Koyasan (random pictures)! A really busy schedule, but everything is worth it :)
Ah yeah, I almost forgot. At Izanagi-jingu I got a really positive fortune paper. I hope everything it says becomes truth ;).
